Portrait Drawing from Life: 3 Day Workshop
August 8th-10th, 2025,
10:00 am – 5:00 pm

Here is your opportunity to learn the primary foundation for all portrait work. This workshop is specifically designed for the beginning and intermediate portrait artist who seldom works from life or perhaps has been too intimidated to try. Students will be working from a live model as Paul demonstrates and lectures on the principles and techniques needed to execute a traditional portrait. With demonstrations and lectures given daily, students are taken through a step-by-step procedure…watch, listen, learn, and then apply. Combined with individual attention, critiques, and hands-on instruction, students will have the opportunity to create a finished portrait under Paul’s guidance. Beginners and advanced students alike will certainly benefit from the experience.
After signing up, please make sure to review and purchase the supply list for the class.

THE FACILITATOR

Paul W. McCormack

Paul W. McCormack received his formal art training at DuCret School of the Arts, where he later became a faculty member. Working exclusively in watercolors for the first ten years of his career, Paul made his mark early on with figurative work that redefined the medium and challenged the sensibilities of traditional watercolor painting. Returning to Oils in the early ’90s and working in both mediums, he has enjoyed a successful portrait career for over 30 years with a long affiliation with Portraits Inc. in NYC. In recent years, he has expanded his themes beyond the traditional portrait and returned to more personal narratives. His work has been featured in numerous national and international publications and books. His paintings have appeared on two covers of the Artist’s Magazine, first in 1998, where he won First Place in the Portrait Category in their annual competition. Throughout his career, he has been the recipient of many awards, including the “Gold Medal of Honor” from the Allied Artists of America 101st Annual Exhibition, and the “Silver Medal Award” from the Oil Painters of America 21st National Juried Exhibition. www.mccormackstudios.com
